Before your first sailing enquiry

Use these notes to organise your thoughts before contacting the club. Adjust the checklist to the task in front of you.

Describe the experience you bring

Say whether you are new to sailing, returning after time away or familiar with another class of boat. A short, honest description helps the club explain the relevant next step without guessing your ability.

Ask about the day on shore as well as afloat

Check where to meet, the expected duration, clothing and equipment arrangements. Ask about access to the site and any practical assistance you need before making travel plans.

Confirm the current arrangements

Weather, volunteers and the activity programme can affect what is possible. Obtain a current confirmation from the club and ask how changes will be communicated. Do not rely on a historic directory timetable.

Your preparation checklist
